This free week meal plan printable gives you two pages: a 7-day dinner plan and a weekly grocery list that follows it, night by night. Download both below in A4 or US Letter, fill in the dinners first, then write what you need to buy under each one. When the dinner grid is full, the shopping list is nearly done.

Both pages are real templates from the Weeklo planner app, one week per page, Monday to Sunday, landscape, with the dates already printed. The dinner plan is the Week at a Glance layout: a coloured date tab and one long line per night. The grocery list is the Vertical layout: seven lined columns, one for each dinner, and a notes line at the bottom for staples.

The files are free for personal use, with no email or sign-up. The Weeklo app exports its PDFs in A4. We made the US Letter versions with the same templates so readers in the US and Canada can print without scaling. The grocery list has a beige border and uses more ink than the plain dinner plan.
Print at 100% (Actual size), landscape, on the paper size that matches the file. For the 2027 files, print only the weeks you need next.
How to make a week meal plan in 15 minutes
- Check the week first. Look at your calendar and mark the nights with football practice, late meetings or guests. Those nights get the fastest meals.
- Write the dinners. One per row on the dinner plan. Start with the fixed points (a family favourite, the night you always cook rice), then fill the gaps.
- Leave a night open. Most households do not cook seven different dinners. A leftover night or a quick pantry meal absorbs the week’s surprises. The example below fills all seven nights so you can see the full grid, but you can leave one blank.
- Check the pantry, one dinner at a time. Open the fridge and cupboard and ask what each recipe still needs.
- Write the missing items on the grocery list, in the column of the night that needs them.
- Add the staples to the notes line: milk, eggs, bread, whatever is nearly gone.
- Shop once. Merge the columns into one pass through the store (next section), then keep the dinner plan on the fridge so everyone can see what is for dinner without asking.

From meal plan to weekly grocery list
Write each ingredient under the dinner it belongs to, not in one long list. When someone asks whether you really need something, the answer sits right next to the dish. Here is the example week with the items we would write down:
| Night | Dinner | To buy |
|---|---|---|
| Mon | Lentil soup with bread | Red lentils, carrots, onions, lemons, bread |
| Tue | Chicken tacos and salad | Chicken breast, tortillas, lettuce, tomatoes, yoghurt |
| Wed | Veggie pasta bake | Pasta, courgettes, tinned tomatoes, mozzarella |
| Thu | Baked salmon, potatoes, green beans | Salmon fillets, potatoes, green beans |
| Fri | Homemade veggie pizza | Pizza dough, passata, peppers, mushrooms (mozzarella from Wednesday’s pack) |
| Sat | Beef and pepper stir-fry with noodles | Beef strips, noodles, soy sauce, ginger |
| Sun | Chickpea curry with rice | Chickpeas (2 tins), coconut milk, basmati rice, spinach |

Merge and sort before you shop
Columns are good for planning and bad for walking around a store. Before you leave, rewrite the list by section and merge duplicates as you go (the pizza and the pasta bake share one pack of mozzarella):
| Section | Items from the example week |
|---|---|
| Produce | Carrots, onions, lemons, courgettes, tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, mushrooms, potatoes, green beans, spinach, ginger |
| Meat and fish | Chicken breast, salmon fillets, beef strips |
| Dairy | Yoghurt, mozzarella |
| Tins and dry goods | Red lentils, pasta, tinned tomatoes, passata, noodles, basmati rice, chickpeas, coconut milk, soy sauce |
| Bakery | Bread, tortillas, pizza dough |
If you shop online, the column version helps too: it shows which dinner to drop when the basket goes over budget.
Swap in your own dinners; the layout works for any cooking.

A family meal planner that everyone can read
A weekly dinner plan helps most when the whole household can see it and has a say in it.
- One pick each. Every person chooses one dinner for the week, and you write those in first.
- A cook for every night. Write an initial next to each dinner. Older children can own one easy night a week.
- Double once, eat twice. Cook a double batch of the soup or curry and use it for the leftover night.
- Write portions next to items. “Chicken breast x4” saves a guess at the shop.
- Keep it on the fridge. The printed page answers “what is for dinner?” before anyone asks. Our week at a glance guide has more ideas for a family fridge page.
If you cook for one or two, plan three dinners instead of seven, cook generous portions and let the leftovers cover the other nights. The same two pages work; most of the grocery columns will simply stay empty.
Plan the meals and the shopping list in the Weeklo app
If you would rather type than write, you can keep the same system in the Weeklo app. Weeklo is a visual weekly planner and has no recipes. You enter the dinners and the items yourself, and it does not generate the shopping list from the dinners.
- Create a planner for dinners. Name it with an emoji, like “🍽️ Dinners”, and type one dinner on each day of the week grid.
- Create a second planner for groceries. Name it “🛒 Grocery” and put the items on your shopping day, plus a mid-week top-up day for fresh things. Separate planners are part of PRO. On the free plan you have one planner, so keep the dinners and the shopping items together in it.
- Tick items off in the store. A completed task is greyed out and drops to the bottom of its day, so what is left is what you still need.
- Move dinners when plans change. Drag a dinner to another day instead of rewriting the page.

The magic wand (PRO) adds a matching emoji to every task in the current week that has none, which makes a long list quicker to scan in a busy store. You cannot choose the emoji yourself, only switch emojis on or off in Settings. Recurring tasks (PRO) are handy for fixed routines like a Friday pizza night.

Print the planned week
Once the week is planned in the app, PDF export (PRO) prints it on A4 in one of six templates, including Week at a Glance and Weekly Vertical, the two used on this page. Pick the date range, choose a template and print the result for the fridge.

Meal planning is one part of a planned week. The printable weekly planner page has six more designs for appointments and tasks, the visual planner guide shows how emojis and colours make a week quicker to read, and how to plan your week covers the full weekly routine that dinners and groceries slot into. If chores follow the same weekly rhythm, the weekly cleaning schedule works the same way.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a weekly meal plan?
Check your calendar first and mark the nights when you have little time. Then write one dinner per night on a weekly grid, pick easy meals for the busy nights, and leave one night free for leftovers or a change of plan. The whole thing takes about 15 minutes once you have done it a few times.
How do I make a grocery list from a meal plan?
Go through the plan one dinner at a time and check your fridge and pantry for each recipe. Write only the missing ingredients on the list, add the staples you are running low on, then merge duplicates and sort the list by store section so you can shop in one pass.
Is this weekly meal plan printable free, and what size is it?
Yes, both PDFs download directly with no email or sign-up and are free for personal use. They come in A4 and US Letter, landscape. The Weeklo app exports A4 only; we made the US Letter versions ourselves with the same templates.
How do I plan family meals for the week?
Ask each person for one dinner they would like, write those on the grid first, and fill the rest with meals you already know how to cook. Name a cook for each night, and double a recipe once a week so you get a leftover night.
Can I plan meals and a grocery list in the Weeklo app?
Yes. Type each dinner on its day in the week grid and keep your shopping items in a second planner, ticking them off in the store. Weeklo does not suggest recipes or build the shopping list for you. Multiple planners, automatic emojis and PDF export are part of PRO.
